Laundry Tips

  • Tips for Preparing the Wash

Sorting the laundry is the first step to a clean wash and helps to keep clothes, liners and other household items looking their best through repeated washings.

Step 1 : First sort the laundry by colour. Put all white clothes in one pile, light colours and pastels in another pile and finally the bright and dark colours into a third pile.

Step 2 : Sort heavily soiled items away from lightly soiled clothes as the lightly soiled items may pick up extra dirt from the heavily soiled articles.

Step 3 : Pre-treat spots, stains and heavily soiled items by hand washing/presoak the clothes with UIC Laundry Liquid Detergent. For hand washing/soaking instructions, please see instructions on pack.

Step 4 : Button all garments and turn them inside out before washing and drying.

  • Tips for choosing the right temperature on the washer for washing clothes

When to use hot/warm water: for most clothing the hotter the water the cleaner the clothing will be. Most linens and white clothing are washed in hot/warm water to remove germs and heavy soil. However, many of our clothes will not come out looking very nice if they are washed in hot water. Hot water tends to make some clothing shrink, wrinkle and fade. Alternatively, use UIC Laundry Liquid Detergent (Anti-Bacterial) to eliminate 99.9% of harmful bacteria and provides long lasting anti-bacterial protection.

When to use cold water: use only cold water for delicate items, or items with instructions to be washed in cold water. If your cold-water items are heavily soiled or dirty, you may have to wash the items for longer, or allow them to soak before washing. Not only will that save energy, it will also make ironing easier. UIC Laundry Liquid Detergent is suitable for white, coloured, delicate and normal fabric.

  • Tips to prevent colours from fading

Read the care label: Check for instructions that may say to wash only in cold, or with like colours. Don’t forget to check for drying instructions as well.

Turn clothes inside out: Turning garment inside out will reduce pilling which dulls the look of the fabric. Don’t forget to turn clothing inside out when you hang the clothes outside to dry. While the sun is an excellent and efficient drying tool, it may zap the colour right out of your clothing. For best indoor drying result, use Topload Spin Laundry Powder Detergent that has been formulated to suit indoor drying.

Wash in cold: To prevent fading from coloured clothes, wash them in cold water. Topload Spin Laundry Powder Detergent has been formulated to suit any temperature wash to enhance the cleaning efficacy even in cold water wash.

Add softener: Fabric softener will give the washed garment an added softness. Just add Sofsil® Fabric Softener in the softener compartment of the washing machine. It will not only give you a natural softness, but also will bring the clothes colour back to life.

Use a gentle detergent: If you still want to make sure your colours last as long as possible, you can wash on your machine’s gentle cycle or hand wash your special clothing. Choose Topload Spin Laundry Powder Detergent as it has these unique additives in the formulations that are chemical-friendly to the clothes and machine.

  • Why Use Fabric Softener?

Rough fibres are smoothed and feel softer to the touch after being treated with fabric softener. Since fibres aren’t rubbing against each other directly, clothes enhanced with fabric softener are less prone to static cling. Fabric Softeners also help clothes stay springy and are less likely to wrinkle in the dryer and in closets.

Also, the refreshing scent of fabric softener can be very appealing to some people. Fabric Softeners such as Sofsil® Fabric Softener are specially formulated to release scents over an extended period of time so that clothes washed months ago may still smell great and pleasant to touch now. Sofsil® Fabric Softener has four different functions with four different fragrance to suit everyone.

  • Front Load / Horizontal-drum washing machines need low sudsing / foaming detergent

The tumble cleaning action, low water usage and low energy consumption associated with horizontal-drum washing machines means that they require low sudsing/ foaming detergent to work at their best. SPIN® Low Suds Laundry Detergent delivers brilliant results with every wash without excessive sudsing/foaming.

This is because too much foam can:
    – Interfere with the washer’s washing/tumbling action
    – Reduce soil and stain removal performance and rinsing efficiency
    – Cause the washer’s pump to overheat
    – Overflow through the detergent dispenser and make a mess on the floor
    – Enter the condensing chamber, clog the fan blower mechanism and over time induce rust and damage the drum

Do not use high suds. High suds may cause corrosion and leave behind a trace of residue if they are not properly washed away. On top of it, too much foam caused by detergent powder can also cause water to overflow that will damage the drum. SPIN® Low Suds Laundry Detergent has all the superior active ingredients for a good wash with low foaming properties which is intentionally designed to protect the washing machine drum.

  • Tips to protect the washing machine and maximise cleaning performance

It is strongly recommended to read the manufacturer’s instruction booklet thoroughly, keep it for reference, and follow the recommended laundry procedures.

Do not overload the machine; garments should not exceed the manufacturer’s recommendation. For best cleaning action, clothes need room to move freely and there must be enough free water to carry away to soils/dirt easily. Fill the tub loosely and not completely.

Always wash a full load or match the water level setting to the amount of clothes being washed. When washing small loads, use a lower water setting. This will help to save energy and water.

Mix small and large items in each load for the best circulation, and distribute the load evenly around the wash basket. And with larger loads, ensure that you use enough detergent.

Do not overload the dryer. The load should allow to tumble freely for fast wrinkle free drying.

Do not let the garments remain in the dryer after it has been shut off. This can cause wrinkling, which might add pressure in the ironing process.

Have a qualified electrician check and clear your power supply. A faulty power supply can bug your washing machine, as well as be very dangerous to you! If you are using an extension cord, ensure it is compatible with the power outlet and your machine.

Ensure that the washing machine is levelled and that the drainpipe remains unblocked. Check the pump and pipes regularly to remove any blockages.
